LAGOS STATE INTRODUCES PERSONAL INDENTIFICATION NUMBER (LASPIN) FOR STUDENTS

The Lagos State Government has announced the introduction of personal identification number (LASPIN) to capture biometric data of students in all public schools i.e. elementary and secondary schools.


This is contained publication was made available to journalists on Sunday in Lagos by the public relations officer of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Jide Lawal.
The statement quoted the deputy governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, saying LASPIN will be a unique identity number for each student throughout their stay in the educational system of the state.
Adebule, who oversees the ministry, said that the process of transferring students in the state now simplified using the LASPIN.

According to Adebule, LASPIN control and discourage abuse and make the process of transferring from one school to another, more transparent.
The deputy governor was also quoted as expressing the government's determination to improve passing grades for students of Lagos State in external examinations from three percent to 60 percent in 2019.
He said the government is committed to adopting the platform of e-CV / solution to help teachers access to curriculum materials and the program directly from the Research and Development of the National Education Council (NERDC) .. .

He also said that the introduction and adoption of e-CV platform / solution ensures uniformity and facilitate the development of lesson plans and teacher's guide from the website of the ministry.
Adebule said intensive surveillance and monitoring of teaching and learning for school by office quality control were designed to meet the established standards.

The deputy governor said the rules were established by both the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO).
"Government will carry out the systematic introduction and exposure of students to ICT-based teaching and learning tools for example, given out tablets to students from the senior secondary stage.

"This is in order to make teachers and students compete globally and be conversant with the modern 'trend', he said in the statement.
